Compulsory school going age for my child

What age is compulsory school going for my child? Are things any different this 2025 or remains the same. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi parent24;

It is true that Grade R was proposed as the new compulsory grade for a start. And it was known from the South African Schools Act (SASA) that a child needs to start with compulsory school (that is, Grade 1) the year they are to turn 7 (provided the date comes by the end of June). This would then mean that the year the child turns 6 (provided the date comes by the end of June) becomes the new compulsory school going age (that is, to begin with Grade R). May it be noted that while schools may accept kids into Grade R at 5 years or younger, the compulsory school going year (for which you may be statutorily questioned as a parent) remains unchanged.
